The updated BYD Seagull gets up to 405km range and advanced safety features in China

With the onslaught of small city EVs like the Geely EX2 coming in, BYD’s Seagull is one offering that’s starting to look like it would need to catch up, as the current model currently offers up to 300km from a single charge from its 30.08kWh LFP battery pack. However, making a quiet debut at the recently concluded Auto China 2026 in Beijing was the updated Seagull.

The biggest change comes underneath, where the single-front-mounted electric motor (that makes 75 horsepower and 135Nm of torque) is now mated to a larger 38.88kWh LFP battery. This allows for up to 405km of range on a single charge, while the standard range 30.08kWh battery is offered on the more affordable variants.

Apart from the new colors, all black 16-inch wheels, updated LED taillights where the BYD logo is now integrated, dual front wipers, and a more aggressive front bumper, higher-end variants now feature a taxi-style hump at the top that houses the LiDAR sensor, which allows it to utilize the DiPilot 300 (God’s Eye B) advanced driver assistance system.

On top of your usual suite of driver assistance features like adaptive cruise control, this system can let the car autonomously navigate through cities, down to traffic light recognition, roundabout navigation, and detour support. There’s also automatic emergency braking, a driver monitoring system, and a built-in five-way drive recorder that uses the 360-degree cameras to act as a dashcam.

Apart from that, there are new interior color schemes in white, blue, and pink, a revised dashboard layout, a larger 12.8-inch infotainment with the new DiLink 150 operating system, a larger and fully digital instrument cluster, a 50W wireless charger, and a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with heated front seats.

We’ll most likely see these features trickle down to our local spec Seagull eventually, so here’s to hoping that BYD Cars Philippines will bring this in sooner rather than later to give buyers more options for EVs of that size.
