This is what the facelifted Geely Coolray will look like
Ever since its launch in the country in 2019, the Geely Coolray has consistently been one of the most popular vehicles in the country, even ranking first in terms of sales in the subcompact crossover SUV segment where it competes. Known as the Binyue in its home market of China, it now receives an update after nearly four years in the market.
The Geely Binyue was first introduced in China in August 2018 and is marketed as the Coolray in international markets, and also rebadged as the Proton X50 in Malaysia. We also reported on a possible update just a few weeks ago.
On the outside, the Coolray gets some aesthetic updates on the front fascia. The front grille now has a honeycomb pattern, replacing Geely’s signature Expanding Cosmos design found on the current model. The bumper is also redesigned with a more chiseled look, with an X-shaped portion receiving a different paint finish. Also noticeable is a new lower front lip extension. Photos of the side show a new set of blacked-out alloy wheels which are probably 18-inches in diameter. The rear on the other hand almost remains the same except for a new rear diffuser which now has a sportier design. The rear spoiler also gets a new sportier design with a carbon fiber finish.
Inside, not much has changed. The touchscreen infotainment system is upgraded in terms of size, now at 12.3-inches. For reference, the current Coolray is equipped with a 10.25-inch screen. There is also a new electronic gear selector that has a more premium design compared to the current one. Other changes are a new leather seat pattern with fabric inserts, and new interior panels which still come with mood-lighting on the top-spec Sport variant.
It is not yet known if there are any changes under the hood but we expect powertrain specifications to remain the same. The current Geely Coolray sold in our market is powered by a 1.5 L Inline-3 Cylinder Turbo that produces 177 horsepower and 255 Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed Wet Dual-Clutch Transmission.
There also isn’t any information yet as to when we’ll receive the updated Geely Coolray locally. Given however how popular it is, we won’t be surprised if Geely Philippines fast tracks a launch. More information about the updated model will be available once sales officially begin in China by next month.
