Toyota bZ4X pricing increases in PH, other models retain pricing

We recently reported on how BYD Cars Philippines has increased the pricing of most of their lineup of full battery electric vehicles (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV). Many social media users expressed their disappointment and even compared the Chinese automaker to Toyota.
Most people noted how the Japanese automaker has reduced the prices of its electrified lineup over the past few years, and has also introduced new models that were relatively affordable compared to their rivals. Well, those comments didn’t age so well as there has been a slight price increase.
Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has increased the starting retail price of the bZ4X, its first BEV offering in our market. It now starts at Php 2,753,000, a Php 54,000 increase compared to its previous suggested retail price (SRP) of Php 2,699,000 at launch.
As before, the starting price will give you a bZ4x with a Dark Blue Mica exterior paint job. Choosing the Platinum White Pearl Mica exterior paint job will set you back an additional Php 15,000 (Php 2,768,000), while choosing the Emotional Red or Precious Metal color options will set you back an additional Php 20,000 (Php 2,773,000).
As of this writing, we do not have the exact reason behind this price increase. A possibility is that this is due to the weakening Philippine Peso, along with higher foreign exchange rates. For reference, as of this writing, the USD 1 is equivalent to approximately Php 61.00 to Php 62.00.
Despite the increase in pricing, the Toyota bZ4X is still priced competitively, still in line with rivals such as the Tesla Model Y Premium Long-Range AWD at Php 2,749,000, the Kia EV5 GLS at Php 2,698,000, and undercut largely by the newly launched BYD Sealion 7 Performance AWD at Php 2,588,000.
