Toyota reveals new Yaris Cross

Toyota’s new Nissan Juke competitor.

Toyota has revealed a new crossover SUV in the form of the Yaris Cross. It was originally planned to be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show but the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The all-new Yaris Cross is positioned below the company’s other subcompact SUV offering, the C-HR. It is built on the company’s Toyota New Global Architecture platform or TNGA. It is also on the same 2,560 millimeter wheelbase as the Yaris hatchback. It is 240 mm longer, 20 mm wider, 90 mm taller than the Yaris hatchback but is still smaller than the C-HR.

The exterior looks more traditional than the futuristic looking C-HR which might be good for the company as not everyone is fond of the bigger crossover’s styling.

The Yaris Cross will come with a choice of two engines. The first is a 1.5L three-cylinder engine mated to a CVT or 6-speed manual. The other choice is a 1.5L Hybrid engine with an electric four-wheel drive system.

The all-new Toyota Yaris Cross will be launched in Japan before the end of the year, and in Europe by mid-2021. Would you like to see Toyota offer this new small SUV in our market?
