Current generation Toyota Yaris soldiers on with a facelift in Thailand
The Toyota Vios may already have a completely new generation in some of our neighboring markets, but that’s not the case yet for its Yaris hatchback sibling which has just gotten a facelift over at The Land of Smiles.
Yes, the current generation Toyota Yaris, to which our locally manufactured Vios shares most of its sheet metal with has receives another facelift for the Thai market despite the all-new Vios (also known as Yaris Ativ) already available in other markets. It is also a strong indication that we may see a facelifted Vios in our market instead as seen on spy shots.
So what’s new? Like what we’ve seen on spy shots of the rumored current generation Toyota Vios facelift, the Yaris gets a new front end with more aggressive lines and creases. The headlights, grille, and bumper all get new designs. As for the rest of the vehicle’s exterior, it gets new alloy wheel designs, and rear bumper.
The interior remains almost the same as the pre-facelift version but with a new and larger floating-style touchscreen infotainment system, slightly revised instrument cluster, and a new leather seat pattern.
Under the hood of the Thai-market 2023 Toyota Yaris is a 1.2-liter 3NR-FKE Inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 92 horsepower and 109 Nm of torque, paired to a CVT. If it does arrive in the Philippines, expect it to remain powered by choices of a 1.3L 1NR-FE or 1.5L 2NR-FE gasoline engines which make 99 hp and 123 Nm or 107 hp and 140 Nm, respectively.
Safety is also improved as the Thai-market Yaris now comes equipped with Toyota Safety Sense, giving it Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, Blindspot Monitoring, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, among others.
Now we don’t know if Toyota Motor Philippines has plans to bring in this updated model. If so, they can do it alongside the launch of the updated Toyota Vios or even perhaps the all-new generation. For now, we have to wait.
