The Honda HR-V is capable of doing almost 30 km/l

Fuel prices have continued to fluctuate in the past few months, we don’t know if they will go up or if they will go down. With that, having a fuel-efficient vehicle is now an even bigger consideration for many car buyers and Honda just might have the perfect one.

In a recently concluded fuel economy test in partnership with the Automotive Association of the Philippines (AAP), Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) brought with them the current generation of the Honda Civic and the Honda HR-V which were both introduced locally within the past 12 months.

To be specific, HCPI used the top-spec Honda Civic 1.5 RS Turbo CVT Honda SENSING, Honda HR-V 1.5 V Turbo CVT Honda SENSING, and Honda HR-V 1.5 S CVT Honda SENSING for the test. All three vehicles were driven for a total of 129 kilometers on the highway at speeds of between 60 to 80 kph and with the engine running between 1,500 and 2,000 RPM. In addition, the vehicles’ airconditioning systems were set at 24°C and at the lowest fan speed setting.

First, the Honda Civic 1.5 RS Turbo was able to achieve a total of 21.43 km/l. On the other hand, the Honda HR-V 1.5 V Turbo was able to achieve 24.43 km/l. Both these vehicles share the same 1.5-liter Inline 4-Cylinder VTEC Turbo gasoline engine that produces 178 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque, paired to an Earth Dreams CVT.

Meanwhile, what definitely deserves commendation is the Honda HR-V 1.5 S CVT which was able to achieve 29.66 km/l which easily makes it one of the most efficient models available in the market today. This HR-V variant is powered by the same 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated i-VTEC gasoline engine from the City subcompact sedan. It produces 121 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque, also paired to an Earth Dreams CVT.

With fluctuating fuel prices, we understand how important fuel efficiency is to vehicle owners. Through this eco run, we are not only demonstrating that Honda vehicles are fuel efficient in local conditions, we also want to encourage customers that they too can have excellent fuel mileage. It does help to have safe driving habits and to observe the periodic maintenance service, especially combined with advanced technology features like the Honda SENSING,” said Mr. Masahiko Nakamura, HCPI President.
