Chevrolet Trax to make PH comeback

Chevrolet Philippines, under the distributorship of The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCCI), has just teased its next model coming into the market—the all-new second generation Chevrolet Trax.

Just when you thought that the American automaker has become a bit silent, only recently announcing the availability of its Tahoe and Suburban SUVs, and showcasing some models it has been selling for a few years now, well apparently not. And yes, the Trax nameplate is coming back to the market after a short absence.

The current and second generation of the Trax was first unveiled in July last year for the Chinese market as the Seeker. It was eventually launched as the Trax in the North American market in October. It is larger than the previous generation and in fact is now classified as a compact SUV. This means it will compete directly with the likes of the Ford Territory and Chery Tiggo 7 Pro once it’s launched here.

Looking at its exterior, this new generation Trax gets a more aggressive and muscular front fascia and side profile. The overall design follows the latest design language found in other newer Chevrolet products. Meanwhile, its interior features a driver-centric center stack with a floating touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, among others.

Based on the teaser posted on the Chevrolet Philippines official Facebook page, we will be getting the option of an RS variant. This will give the Trax some sportier details such as red stitching and accents, blacked-out trim pieces, and RS badging.

Under the hood of the Chevrolet Trax, we can expect it to come powered by a 1.2-liter Inline 3-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 137 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. This is currently the sole engine option for the Trax.

While no specifics have been announced for specs and pricing, Chevrolet Philippines did show in its teaser that the 2nd generation Trax will make its local debut on July 4, 2023. That’s Chevrolet being patriotic to the United States for sure.

Also, there is a high chance that Chevrolet Philippines may choose to import this from China such as the Tracker. This will allow it to be priced more competitively and will probably also help the company recover lost ground, especially with the discontinuation of its very popular Colorado and Trailblazer pickup and SUV siblings, and the not exactly successful introductions of the Tracker and newer Trailblazer compact SUV.
