Powertrains
Under the hood of the all-new Toyota Yaris Cross are two powertrain options. The first is a 1.5-liter Inline 4-cylinder 2NR-VE gasoline engine with dual VVT-i. This produces 106 horsepower and 138 Nm of torque, mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The second powertrain option is available on the top-spec S variant. It’s still a 1.5-liter Inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine with dual VVT-i but paired with a lithium-ion battery, and this time called the 2NR-VEX. The gasoline engine alone produces 91 horsepower and 121 Nm of torque. Combined, it produces a total output of 111 horsepower. It’s also still mated to a CVT.
Safety
In terms of safety, all variants get dual front airbags, side airbags, side curtain airbags, anti-lock braking system, electronic braking system, brake assist, vehicle stability control, and hill-start assist control. 1.5 V CVT and S HEV CVT adds blindspot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert, as well as a 360-degree panoramic view monitor.
The V and S variants also come standard with Toyota Safety Sense (TSS). This suite of advanced driver-assistance systems gives the Yaris Cross a Pre-Collision System, Automatic High Beams, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control.
