CONFIRMED: GWM Tank 300 off-roader SUV coming to PH, here’s what we can expect
Great Wall Motor (GWM) Philippines is set to expand its local lineup soon with the addition of two new models which it previewed today to members of local motoring media and content creators.
The Chinese automaker, under the distributorship of Luxuriant Automotive Group, Inc. (LAGI), showed-off the GWM Ora Good Cat electric small hatchback, and the GWM Tank 300 midsize off-road SUV. For this article, we’ll be focusing on the latter.
GWM Tank 300
The Tank 300 is GWM’s answer to the Jeep Wrangler and Toyota FJ Cruiser. This is the brand’s off-road midsize SUV, revealed at the 2020 Chengdu Auto Show and built under the Tank sub-brand. It is based on the Cannon pickup truck’s platform and chassis.
It wears rugged styling through its boxy proportions and heavy use of straight lines and circles, as well as chunky wheel arches. Unlike most SUVs these days, the rear still features a tailgate mounted spare tire. Its interior on the other hand appears to be very upmarket with its large screens and fancy turbine-like air vents.
GWM Philippines has not yet given us any information about specifications but based on other markets, we can expect stuff like full LED exterior lighting, Nappa leather seats, front and rear differential locks, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, and an Infinity premium audio system, among others.
As for the powertain, we’re likely to see a 2.0-liter Inline 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 220 horsepower and 387 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. A hybrid version is also available in China and Thailand, adding in an electric motor and 1.75 kWh battery. This brings total output to 346 horsepower and 615 Nm.
Pricing is not yet available at this time but GWM Philippines says reservations for the Tank 300 will be open by November with unit availability following soon after.
