2022 Honda Civic Type R spied testing

The 11th generation of the Honda Civic may be coming soon.

The current 10th generation Honda Civic was first launched in 2015. Fast forward to five years later and it still looks very much new. Despite that, looks we’re gonna be seeing the next generation soon as a test mule has been spotted with heavy camouflage on the streets.

The first thing you’ll notice with these spy shots is that there is actually a large rear spoiler. This means the test car we’re seeing is actually a Civic Type R. Quite surprising as the hot hatch only came out in 2017. These photos from the Civic X forum show, despite the heavy camouflage, a major departure from the current generations looks.

Based on the photos, the new Civic Type R will be lower and wider than the current model. The dimensions will most likely be the same in regular Civics. In front we already slimmer LED headlights and hints of where Honda’s signature Solid Wing Face grille will go.

The rear end shows almost the same basic shape as the current model’s hatchback bodystyle. The taillights appear to be clear units though we can’t make out what exactly they will look like and whether the new model will still have C-shaped taillights. Hopefully we see full LED units just like in the CR-V. On the side, the window line looks quite similar to the current model. The side also appears to keep the same basic overall silhouette.

This model may be a revolution based on what we can see through the camouflage. Honda has however had the tendency to alternate between revolution and evolution if you compare previous generations with each other. The company did do a great job with the previous model so it is also possible that this may be an evolution instead.

We also got a glance of the interior from the photos. It looks like the Civic will be getting a tablet-style infotainment system just like in the Accord. We’re also seeing a new steering wheel and sport bucket seats for the Type R.

Hopefully Honda will soon reveal a concept version. As with previous Civics and other models, the final production version is the concept with some minor details changed.
