BYD Cars PH goes PHEV with the Sealion 6 DM-i, launched with Php 1.548M starting price

The BYD brand may be known for its lineup of fully-electric vehicles, but unfortunately, those still aren’t for everyone. BYD Cars Philippines, under ACMobility, has the answer to that.

Say hello to the new BYD Sealion 6 DM-i, the newest member of the Chinese automaker’s local lineup, and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) for those who may still be apprehensive about EV ownership but wish to get into it.

As mentioned, under the hood of the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i, unlike other BYD vehicles in the local market, is a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Dubbed as Super DM-i, this is composed of a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated gasoline engine that produces 97 horsepower and 135 Nm of torque, paired to a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor and an 18.3 kWh BYD Blade Battery that makes 197 horsepower and 325 Nm of torque.

Combined power and torque figures are at 217 horsepower and 325 Nm of torque and it can go from 0 to 100 kph in 8.3 seconds. It can drive up to 105 kilometers on pure electric driving, while mixing it up as a hybrid can let it drive as far as around 1,100 km. It is compatible with Type 2 charging.

Size-wise, the BYD Sealion 6 is a compact crossover around the same size as the Ford Territory, Honda CR-V, and Toyota RAV4. It has a length of 4,775 mm, a width of 1,890 mm, and a height of 1,670 mm, and sits on a 2,765 mm wheelbase.

When it comes to looks, BYD has names for everything. For starters, the exterior wears what they call the Ocean x Face Design which gives it a premium and sleek overall appearance. Then there’s the Glistening Combination Headlamps which are U-shaped, and the Surging Waves alloy wheels. The rear then features full-width LED taillights dubbed as Ocean Starlight.

The interior can be had in either Navy Blue and Gray or Tan and Black.
