2nd-generation MG ZS revealed with a hybrid powertrain

The current generation MG ZS may have just recently received its latest updates here in the Philippines, but there’s already something better to look forward to. The Sino-British automaker has just unveiled the all-new second generation of its popular subcompact crossover.

Officially called the MG ZS Hybrid+, the subcompact crossover has been completely redesigned for its second iteration, following the latest trend in terms of design for the brand, featuring more tech, and a new electrified powertrain.

Looks-wise, the MG ZS Hybrid+ follows the latest design language seen on other MG models such as the MG 3, giving it a bolder and more stand-out appearance. The sides and rear remain simple but continue to follow the brand’s design language.

Stepping inside the cabin will reveal a familiar design, taking cues from other models such as the Nissan Magnite and Lamborghini Urus, whichever goes into your mind, with its hexagonal air vent design and use of sharper lines on the dashboard.

Features we can expect on the MG ZS Hybrid+ include LED exterior lighting, 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels, fabric or faux leather seat upholstery, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, 7-inch driver display, 6-speaker audio system, and a 360-degree camera system, among others.

Powering the all-new MG ZS is a 1.5-liter Inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine paired with a 100 kW electric motor and 1.83 kWh battery. This series-parallel hybrid system produces a total combined output of 196 horsepower and 465 Nm of torque. MG quotes a 0 to 100 kph acceleration time of 8.7 seconds and claims a fuel economy figure of 23.6 km/l.

Safety has also been upgraded with standard MG Pilot advanced driver-assistance suite, at least for the British market. This includes Active Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Bicycle Detection, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning System, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Blind Spot Detection, just to name a few.

Given the popularity of this nameplate in the Philippines, it’s no doubt that we’ll get it here. The only real question now is when. Understandably, other markets such as China and the United Kingdom will get it first.
