The Lexus LX receives a few updates for 2025.

Electrification has not really found its way into the full-size SUV segment here in the Philippines. We still love our six- and eight-cylinder engines for sure but elsewhere, you can now get them with electrified powertrains. One of those is the Lexus LX which is the Japanese luxury automaker’s flagship SUV.

Three years after its initial debut in 2021, the premium full-size SUV receives its first set of updates in the form of a new hybrid powertrain, a new off-road focused variant, and some little updates here and there.

The Lexus LX 700h is the first hybrid LX.

Let’s start with the most important bit, the new hybrid. Equipped on the new LX 700h variant, it still gets a 3.4-liter V35A-FTS V6 twin-turbo engine (marketed as a 3.5-liter) mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission under the hood, but with the addition of an hybrid battery, alternator, and starter

Actual output figures have not yet been released although we won’t be surprised to see similar figures as on the Toyota Sequoia or Tundra (394 horsepower, 650 Nm).

The presence of the alternator and starter also makes this system unique as it is the first time they have been applied in a Lexus hybrid system. This allows the vehicle to be driven purely with the gasoline engine in case of emergencies.

Also of note is that the battery is placed inside a waterproof tray under the rear floor. This allows for a wading capacity of 700mm. In case of accidental water ingress, an alert will show up on the dashboard to inform the driver.

An AC inverter has also been added that allows the hybrid system to be used as an external power source through power outlets which have been installed on the second row center console and at the cargo area.

The ‘Overtrail’ is an off-road focused Lexus LX.

And for the other changes, the Lexus LX receives an expanded lineup for 2025 with a new Overtrail variant. First seen on the smaller GX, this new trim level is targeted at those looking for a luxury off-roader.

On the outside it gets a gloss black finish for the signature spindle grille. The fog lamps, roof rails, window moldings, wheel arch moldings, door handles, side mirrors, and rear bumper side garnish are also finished in black or dark tones. A new Overtrail-exclusive Moon Desert exterior paint job is also available. Inside, it gets a unique Overtrail monolith color scheme with its earthy colors.

The interior color scheme is unique to the Overtrail.
The Overtrail also gets specially-designed all-terrain tires.

The LX Overtrail rides on matte gray 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in specially-designed all-terrain tires that allow for enhanced capability while off-roading, while balancing tire noise and handling while on-road. It also gets an additional front and rear differential lock for trouble-free offroading.

Front and rear diff-locks are now included.

If you think we’re done, you’re wrong. A handful of other changes have also been given to the regular LX variants. This includes a 12.3-inch fully-digital driver’s display, massage function on the front seats, a fast wireless charger, and an electronic gear selector.

Improvements have also been added to the Lexus Safety System + suite of advanced driver-assist systems for enhanced safety.

A few other enhancements have also been added.

Now we wonder if Lexus Philippines has plans to bring in the new Lexus LX 700h here. If ever, it can be their first proper hybrid SUV (not crossover). The Overtrail would also be a nice addition to the local Lexus LX lineup.
