PIMS 2024 | Toyota Motor PH to showcase Kayoibako EV van concept and bZ4X EV crossover

It looks like Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is gonna have a very busy booth at the upcoming 9th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) as they tease another set of vehicles that will be on display at the four-day event.

It looks like Toyota Motor Philippines will be showing us the Kayoibako concept and bZ4X.

Based on the teaser video posted on the official Toyota Motor Philippines Facebook page, it looks like the first vehicle is the Kayoibako concept while the second is the bZ4X fully-electric crossover. These two vehicles are also on top of two other vehicles that are set to be launched or previewed by the Japanese automaker at the PIMS.

The first vehicle is the Kayoibako concept EV van.

The Toyota Kayoibako concept was unveiled ahead of last year’s Japan Mobility Show and presents itself as a possible future electric utility van that can be used for various functions such as logistics or transportation.

Its name comes from the Japanese word kayoibako which refers to configurable shipping containers which are used to safely and efficiently transport parts and products between facilities.

The Toyota Kayoibako concept is designed to be very configurable.

Meanwhile, the bZ4X is the brand’s fully-electric compact crossover. About the same size as the RAV4, it is jointly developed with Subaru and rides on the e-TNGA platform which also underpins the Lexus RZ.

The second vehicle might be the Toyota bZ4X.

It is powered by an electric motor and a 71.4 kWh battery. Output is rated at 204 horsepower and 266 Nm of torque, and it can drive an estimated 567 kilometers on a single charge.

An AWD version is also available with dual electric motors and a slightly larger 72.8 kWh battery. This one also has slightly more output at 218 horsepower and 338 Nm of torque, while range is less at up to 542 kilometers.

The bZ4X could become Toyota’s first EV in the Philippines.

We don’t know exactly if TMP will be introducing the bZ4X here as a regular product or if it is simply being previewed just like what Nissan Philippines did earlier this year at the 2024 Manila International Auto Show with the Ariya. If ever the bZ4X is launched, it will be Toyota’s first fully-electric offering in our market.

We won’t have to wait too long to find out if these are truly making an appearance as the 9th Philippine International Motor Show is happening on October 24-27 at the World Trade Center Metro Manila in Pasay City. That’s just a week from now!
