New Honda Prelude to get simulated gear shifts
We already know that the upcoming sixth-generation of the iconic Honda Prelude nameplate will have a hybrid powertrain under the hood, and we also know that its close-to-production prototype version will be displayed at the upcoming 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon.
The Japanese automaker is surely excited for this comeback and has announced a few more details for us to look forward to.
We already know that the new Prelude will have Honda’s e:HEV hybrid powertrain under its hood. Now we also know that it will debut the brand’s S+ Shift which is a new drive mode that the company says will enhance the driving experience through the simulation of the sound and feel of quick gear changes.
This would be needed as it is highly likely that the hybrid powertrain will be mated to an E-CVT instead of a traditional torque-converter transmission. Currently, offering a similar feature is the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N which is a high-performance fully-electric vehicle.
Other details about the powertrain have not yet been provided so we’ll have to wait a bit longer especially since the comeback is slated for 2026.
But again, like we recently wrote, the Prelude Prototype is set to make an appearance at the upcoming 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon which is scheduled to happen in January. For sure, Honda will have some stuff to announce then.
