Valenzuela City goes electric with the BYD Dolphin
More local government units (LGU) in the Philippines are making the switch to electrified mobility. One of which is Valenzuela City which will be the first to have an all-electric fleet for its police force.
The city government signed a contract with ACMobility, the official distributor of BYD vehicles in the country, to provide 41 units of the fully-electric BYD Dolphin hatchback.
Other than having zero emissions which help with reducing air pollutants, especially in an industrialized area, the BYD Dolphin fleet will also allow the LGU to save up to 70% in the operational costs of its vehicle fleet.
In addition, to support Valenzuela City’s shift into electric mobility, ACMobility will also be installing 20 7 kW and two 22 kW EV chargers across the city, allowing the fleet to remain charged for when needed.
“Starting with the transformation of our fleets, beginning with police cars, we set a powerful example for private companies, communities, and individuals to reconsider their own choices,” said Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian. “We recognize that our vision will not materialize overnight, but today, we take the wheel of change and drive towards the horizon of a cleaner future, where progress does not come at the expense of the environment.”
