TAS 2025: Toyota presents a trio of GR Yaris and Land Cruisers
Three different Toyota GR Yarises take the stage at Toyota’s booth at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon, and all of them are interconnected with each other in different ways.
The first is the return of Toyota Gazoo Racing to the 24 Hours of Nürburgring after six years with a new team—Toyota Gazoo Rookie Racing—with a brand new GR Yaris based on the facelift with the latest Direct Automatic Transmission, and improved aerodynamics that can also be found on the second vehicle.
This would be the prototype of the GR Yaris Aero Package, a concept car with performance-enhancing aero parts all around, such as a variable rear wing, functional vents all around the body and on the hood, and front and rear diffusers.
The final GR Yaris is the most interesting one, as the GR Yaris M Concept is an experiment on how a mid-engined, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine will perform in the Super Taikyu race series in Japan, utilizing a brand-new G20E engine under the newly formed Toyota Gazoo Rookie Racing team.
On the other side of the booth was the Land Cruiser Base, where three different SUVs were on display– an original Toyota Jeep BJ, a 70-series fitted with aftermarket parts, and the entry to the 2025 Dakar Rally, a Land Cruiser 300 complete with all modifications needed for the grueling rally race.
