Auto Shanghai 2025: Nissan’s first electrified pickup is the Frontier Pro

With the current-generation Nissan Navara getting long in the tooth, it was expected that its replacement would take advantage of the alliance with Mitsubishi to use the Triton as its new basis, but it has surprised everyone by releasing a model at Auto Shanghai 2025 that is both the brand’s first-ever plug-in hybrid and electrified pickup truck.

The Frontier Pro is a dual-purpose pickup truck meant for both urban and extra-urban driving, and, yes, is a global model meant for export, but China will be getting it first.

The Frontier Pro looks sleek and futuristic while looking properly rugged, with a five-bar front lighting design meant to harken back to the D21 Hardbody pickup truck, also riding on 18-inch wheels for all variants.

The plug-in hybrid powertrain uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a high-output electric motor, capable of 402 horsepower and 800Nm, with up to 135km of electric only range, and is also capable of Vehicle-to-Load functionality.

It has a rear multi-link suspension and intelligent all-wheel drive, alongside an electromechanical rear differential lock, allowing the body-on-frame chassis to go off-road easily.

The interior is also incredibly luxurious, with a minimalist two-screen setup: 10 inches for the drivers display and 14.6 inches for the infotainment, alongside a panoramic roof, heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats, and an electronic retractable cargo cover.

This model is co-developed with Zhengzhou Nissan, and is expected to go on sale in China before the end of this year. Will this model make sense in the Philippines?
