Auto Shanghai 2025 | The Haval Xiaolong Max is GWM’s answer to the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i

GWM Philippines has been in the electrified vehicle space with the Haval Jolion and Haval H6 hybrid crossovers ever since they made their Philippine debut in 2023. But maybe there’s another model that they could bring to us.

At the 2025 Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, the Chinese automaker showed off its latest models, including the Haval Xiaolong Max (no, not food) which can take on the extremely popular BYD Sealion 6 DM-i.

Powering the Haval Xialong Max is GWM’s new Hi4 plug-in hybrid system. This combines a pair of electric motors and a battery charged by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Total system output is 324 horsepower and 595 Nm of torque, mated to a two-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT).

With an 18.74kWh battery, it can drive up to 110km on pure electric power. A larger 27.54kWh battery brings that figure up to 165km. 0 to 100kph acceleration time is also estimated at 6.8 seconds.

Size-wise, it’s right in line with the BYD Sealion 6, measuring at 4,780mm long, 1,895mm wide, and 1,725mm tall.

In the looks department, GWM has given this a different identity compared to the rest of their lineup wearing what they call natural rhythmic aesthetics. It features sleek design cues all around, full-width light bars front and rear with an illuminated Haval name, and a floating roof design.

The cabin is minimalistic in its design with mostly straight horizontal lines. There’s a two-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 14.6-inch central touchscreen that comes with Apple CarPlay connectivity.

It’s also equipped with Coffee Pilot Plus which is the brand’s suite of advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS) that makes use of three millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and seven cameras for autopilot driving in both city and highway conditions.

Do you think GWM Philippines should bring the Haval Xialong Max to our market and challenge the leading BYD Sealion 6 DM-i?
