The BYD Tang is also getting a DM-i version in PH

Another day, another piece of news about a new BYD model coming to the Philippines, and this time it’s for a plug-in hybrid DM-i variant of the Tang seven-seater midsize crossover.

Yep, BYD Cars Philippines may soon be expanding its Super DM-i system, which has gained quite some popularity over the past year, to its flagship crossover, based on a memorandum circular released by the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

According to the document, the Tang DM-i will get a 1,497cc engine displacement which translates to 1.5-liters, along with an electric motor that produces 272 horsepower and a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery

Maximum all-electric driving range is estimated at 110km, and replenishing the battery through regular AC charging is estimated at three hours while DC charging would take just 22 minutes.

Other notable details include its dimensions which measure at 4,870mm long, 1,950mm wide, and 1,720mm tall, and with a ground clearance that now measures at 225mm. All these make it very competitive in terms of size against popular midsize pickup-based SUVs such as the Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Montero Sport.

It’s also confirmed to ride on 20-inch wheels wrapped in 255/55 tires. We can expect it to come fully-equipped with the latest tech and premium features such as adaptive LED headlights, a rotating touchscreen infotainment screen, nappa leather upholstery, and the DiPilot advanced driver-assistance suite, among others.

We don’t know yet how BYD Cars Philippines plans to price this but the fully-electric non DM-i version of the BYD Tang presently available in our market is priced at Php 3,321,000. Given that the Tang DM-i is more affordable in the brand’s home market, we can probably expect the same locally as well.
