The Aygo X is the littlest hybrid car from Toyota that we need

When we’re talking about small cars, the Japanese kei car comes to mind. Tiny little boxes, perfect for roaming the tight and dense streets of Tokyo, especially if they’re of the electrified kind. Unfortunately for the rest of the world, there’s no official way to get it, hence tiny A-segment cars fill in that void.

And for Europe, Toyota has just electrified the tiny little Aygo X, making it the first full hybrid vehicle in its segment. While strictly a nameplate meant for other markets, something like this makes sense in our country (the Philippines).

The “X” stands for crossover, and it measures a dinky 3,700mm long, 1,740mm wide, and 1,525mm tall, making it just as big as the Wigo in our country.

The styling of the Aygo leans towards the eccentric side, with lots of angles, a large grille that gives the car a frown, funky two-tone alloy wheels of either 17 or 18 inches, and one of its most distinct design traits: a blacked-out rear end that starts from the side skirt, and extends all the way to the roof, which also has the option of being a cloth sunroof.

The interior is also just as quirky, featuring body-colored interior accents, and lots of rounded elements that house elements such as the aircon vents, the 7-inch digital driver’s display, and up to 10.5 inches of infotainment real estate with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

It can seat four and has a 231L cargo area, and it also comes with Toyota Safety Sense as standard.

More importantly, it’s now all electrified, sharing the TNGA-B platform with cars such as the Yaris and Yaris Cross (the global XP210 variants, mind you). This means it now comes as a full hybrid, utilizing the 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine (the M15A-FXE) paired with an electric motor, with power output up to 114hp, and a 0-100km/h time of under 10 seconds.

The GR Sport variant doesn’t get any power bump, but it comes with retuned steering and improved suspension, alongside the prerequisite GR Sport cosmetics and interior parts. Prices in the UK start at £16,845.00, which is roughly Php 1,270,000 when converted. Would you prefer something like this over a Wigo and other A-segment vehicles in our market?
