BYD Cars PH wants more with the Sealion 5 DM-i, priced at Php 1.248M

BYD Cars Philippines is building on the success of its Sealion 6 DM-i crossover as it introduces yet another addition to their lineup of DM-i range-extended vehicles. They just can’t run out of new models to bring to our market, this time it’s the Sealion 5 DM-i.
Sitting below the Sealion 6 DM-i, the Sealion 5 DM-i is also known as the Song Pro in other markets, and aims to compete squarely against other electrified subcompact crossovers such as the Toyota Yaris Cross and Nissan Kicks, and even pure-ICE ones such as the GAC GS3 Emzoom and Toyota Raize.

Measuring at 4,738mm long, 1,860mm wide, and 1,710mm tall, while riding on a 2,712mm wheelbase, its size puts it above more premium electrified segment rivals such as the Toyota Corolla Cross and Honda HR-V.
Design-wise, the Sealion 5 combines styling cues from both the Ocean and Tang series of BYD products.

The front fascia is low-slung with a large grille and aggressively sculpted bumper, while the multi-reflector headlights feature L-shaped DRLs. The side features a contrasting silver panel with a fish scale-like pattern, and the rear gets full width taillights.

Meanwhile, its interior is largely similar to that of the Sealion 6 DM-i albeit in a smaller package. A beige and brown color scheme is matched with orange accents which give it a little bit of pop.

Available in the lone Dynamic variant, the BYD Sealion 5 DM-i is equipped with full LED exterior lighting, 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels with 225/60 tires, a tailgate spoiler, leather seats, an eight-inch LCD driver’s display, a 10.1-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, asix-speaker audio system, and a reverse camera.

Moving the BYD Sealion 5 DM-i is the same powertrain found in the Seal 5 DM-i compact sedan. That’s a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that acts as a generator for its electric motor. In total, the system produces 197 horsepower and 300Nm of torque, and can drive from 0 to 100 kph in about 8.3 seconds. Top speed is rated at 170kph.
With its 12.9kWh LFP battery, the crossover can drive on full electric power alone for 71km, while total driving range is estimated at 1,001km. Charging can be done via 3.3kWh Type 2 AC charging.

With its retail price of Php 1,248,000, we won’t be surprised if the new Sealion 5 DM-i takes the market by storm. If you want to see this in person, you can check it out at the BYD Tech Tour happening at the Alabang Town Center until June 22, 2025.
