MG Philippines officially launches the S5 EV at Php 1.448M
After teasing and giving a preview of the vehicle, MG Philippines now has a new entry in its lineup of electrified and electric vehicles, which features the likes of multiple self-charging hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and battery electric vehicles.
The S5 EV conveniently slots in as the Sino-British automaker’s newest and most affordable fully electric crossover offering, going up against the BYD Atto 3 and Toyota Urban Cruiser, especially at a suggested retail price of Php 1,448,888, or an introductory price of Php 1,408,888.
This crossover’s smooth, rounded looks are offset by sporty elements such as the checkered-flag LED daytime running lights and taillights (which form an “almost lightbar”), a split front grille with active shutters to improve aerodynamics, all-black 17-inch alloy wheels with aerodynamic disc covers, all leading to a slippery drag coefficient of 0.28.
This, in turn, allows it to have a range figure of up to 415km (NEDC) from its 49kWh LFP battery. It can be charged up via a Type 2 AC charger at rates of up to 7kW, or CCS2 DC fast charging at speeds of up to 120kW allowing for a charging time of 30 to 80% in 26 minutes, alongside Vehicle-To-Load (V2L) capabilities.
The MG S5 EV is also powered by a single rear-mounted electric motor which produces up to 170 horsepower and 250Nm of torque. The platform is shared with the previous MG 4 (non-Urban), meaning it should possess similar driving characteristics and dynamics because it is a rear-wheel-drive EV with independent suspension bits all around.
The minimalist interior of the MG S5 EV has a monotone finish utilizing dual leather-and–fabric upholstery, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 12.8-inch infotainment screen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a set of physical controls beneath for the climate control, and four USB-C ports with a single USB-A port for the rear-view mirror.
Finally, this supports the suite of MG Pilot advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), where it has features like adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assistance, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning with lane keeping assistance, and a driver monitoring system.
