The latest in Philippine motoring

Here’s everything you need to know about the just-launched all-new MG ZS

The all-new MG ZS has finally arrived and is now on sale in the Philippines, a few months after it was first previewed at the 2025 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS).

This subcompact crossover is the one that put the Sino-British automaker on the map for the Philippine market, easily catapulting it to the top 10 best selling automotive brands locally at some point. Now in its second generation, it has been redesigned from the ground up and offers much more than ever before.

Four variants are available for the all-new MG ZS, with their respective prices below:

  • 1.5 Comfort CVT – Php 948,888
  • 1.5 Luxury CVT – Php 1,088,888
  • 1.5 Turbo Sport CVT – Php 1,198,888
  • 1.5 Hybrid+ – Php 1,328,888

Design-wise, the second generation ZS follows MG’s latest design language seen on their other models, such as the MG 3 hatchback, giving it a bolder, more swoopy, and stand-out appearance. The cabin is more modern and features hexagonal air vents and sharper lines on the dashboard.

Standard features starting from the Comfort variant are halogen headlights, 16-inch alloy wheels, LED DRLs, LED taillights, fabric seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), four-speaker audio system, and a 3.5-inch instrument cluster display.

The Luxury adds LED headlights, power-folding mirrors, 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, roof rails, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, six-speaker audio system, and faux leather seats.

Moving up to the Turbo Sport and Hybrid+ adds 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels, heated side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, power-adjustable driver seat, and heated front seats.

Both Turbo Sport and Hybrid+ also get a suite of advanced driver-assist systems, dubbed MG Pilot and composed of adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, traffic jam assist, blind spot monitoring, and lane change assist, among others.

As you can probably tell from the variant and price list above, three powertrain options are available for the all-new MG ZS, depending on the variant.

Comfort and Luxury variants get a 1.5-liter four-cylinder naturally-aspirated gasoline engine that produces a humble 110 horsepower and 141Nm of torque.

The Turbo Sport, hence its name, gets a turbocharged version that makes 170 horsepower and 275Nm. These three variants get a CVT.

Meanwhile, the Hybrid+ also gets a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 102 horsepower and 128Nm, but is this time paired to an electric motor that makes 136 horsepower and 250Nm, and a 1.83 kWh battery. Combined output is a respectable 197 horsepower, and it’s mated to a three-speed hybrid transmission.

Well, there you have it, buyers looking for a new electrified subcompact crossover have another choice to select from. The question now is, would you take the MG ZS over rivals such as the Toyota Yaris Cross, Geely Coolray, or GAC GS3 Emzoom?
