The Honda Prelude will share its suspension with the Civic Type R

While we’re still waiting for the Honda Prelude to make its much-awaited comeback, the Japanese automaker continues to hype everyone up with updates on what to expect from the two-door coupé.
Expected to make its grand debut later this year, the latest bit is that it’ll be taking some stuff from the parts bin of the Civic Type R, the brand’s flagship high-performance vehicle offering in its global lineup, which is very much known for its capabilities on the road.

While the Prelude will not be getting a six-speed manual transmission in favor of a CVT, it will be getting the Civic Type R’s dual-axis front suspension design, which was first introduced in the FK8 generation, its first application in a non-Type R Honda. It’ll also sport wider front and rear tracks, and Brembo front brakes.

And since the Prelude has always been and will be touted as a grand tourer, the suspension and brake systems will be retuned to deliver more comfort while still maintaining a sporty driving nature.
This confirmation is on top of what we already know, such as its utilization of Honda’s dual-motor hybrid system from the Civic Hybrid, featuring new tech such as the Honda S+ Shift for a sportier and more traditional experience through simulated gear shifts.

The date of the 2026 Honda Prelude’s official reveal has not yet been announced, but Honda says that it will happen this year. We won’t be surprised if that will be at the upcoming 2025 Japan Mobility Show, slated to happen by the end of October this year.
