Another sports sedan is being killed-off due to poor sales

Sad to say, it seems to be getting harder and harder for sports sedans to find buyers in this day and age of crossovers in multiple size categories. As such, this segment is slowly fading away with different automakers axing their sports sedan nameplates.
Just in June, Lexus announced the discontinuation of IS production in Japan by November. Now, Acura, Honda’s luxury division, is following suit, announcing the discontinuation of its current flagship TLX midsize sports sedan.
While it was never sold here in the Philippines and is currently exclusive to the United States and Canada, the TLX has been on the market for 30 years, starting its life as the TL in 1995.
With 1.2-million units sold since then, sales have started dwindling which is why Acura has decided to put the nameplate on the chopping board, and to “better align with the evolving needs of our customers and the changing landscape of the automotive industry.”
Meanwhile, Honda’s Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio, USA where the TLX is produced, will become the production site for the upcoming revival of the RSX nameplate, which will be a fully electric crossover built on the new Honda 0 platform as opposed to liftback coupé from the early 2000’s, a rebadged version of the iconic Honda Integra.
So yup, if you want a brand-new sports sedan, you better start finding one as your options are getting even more limited wherever you are on the globe.
