Who would’ve thought this small hybrid crossover would lead a track day?

When you think track day, it’s usually the sportiest two-door coupés or four-door sport sedans. As for the lead cars, it’s the same case. Lexus Philippines begs to differ.

The Japanese luxury automaker is showcasing its entry-level LBX subcompact crossover in a different way as it leads the various car club track days at this weekend’s Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup.

Admittedly, who would’ve thought a small hybrid crossover would lead packs of Toyota GR performance vehicles such as the GR 86, GR Supra, and GR Yaris, as well as Lexus’ own IS sports sedan.

The Lexus LBX rides on the TNGA-B platform, and is powered by a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine paired to an electric motor and lithium-ion battery. This hybrid system produces a total of 136 horsepower mated to an E-CVT.

Lexus Philippines will also be showcasing its NX 350 F Sport during the race weekend at the Lexus tent. Race Weekend 3 of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup will be held at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga this coming August 9 (Saturday). The event is open to the public and admission is free.
