The Jaecoo J7 SHS wants to steal sales from the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i, pricing starts at Php 1.449M

Saying that the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i is popular is an understatement. The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) compact crossover’s sales are doing so well that every automotive brand wants to try to steal sales from them, and Omoda & Jaecoo (O&J) Philippines is one of them, wanting to do so with the Jaecoo J7 SHS.

Revealed in 2023 as the Chery TJ-1 CD-M prototype, the J7 is one of the first models under the young Jaecoo brand which only came into being in 2023. And with it touted as a BYD Sealion 6 DM-i fighter, it has to be a PHEV crossover, and it is.

The Jaecoo J7 SHS is powered by Omoda & Jaecoo’s Super Hybrid System (SHS) which combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine and a 150kW electric motor

The system produces a combined 275 horsepower and 365Nm of torque, mated to a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). It’s paired to an 18.3kW battery that allows it to drive up to 90km on full electricity.

Total driving range can reach up to 1,488.8km based on actual testing done on Philippine soil, while charging from 30-80% can be done in as fast as 20 minutes through 40kW DC charging (or 25-100% in two hours and 42 minutes through 6.6kW AC charging).

Size-wise, the Jaecoo J7 SHS measures at 4,500mm long, 1,865mm wide, and 1,670mm tall, riding on a 2,672mm wheelbase. Its design follows a more rugged and boxy profile with plenty of straight and square elements.

The front fascia features a wide rectangular front grille with vertical slats, flanked by slim horizontal daytime running lights, and next to square-shaped headlight housings. The side profile is simple while the rear features a full-width light bar. Inside, it gets a minimalist design theme that also gets mostly straight lines.

Features include full LED exterior lighting, 19-inch alloy wheels, pop-out door handles, a power tailgate, panoramic sunroof, 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a vertical 14.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an eight-speaker Sony audio system, and leather seats.

You’re now probably wondering how much this all costs. Two variants of the Jaecoo J7 SHS are available: Comfort and Premium. The former is priced at Php 1,449,000 and the latter at Php 1,549,000
