Are we closer to a LFA successor with the Lexus Sport Concept?

We all know Lexus is developing a brand-new halo sports car. We’ve seen the Lexus Electrified Sport Concept as a prelude to the future of the brand’s electric ambitions. The sleek, two-door coupe featured theoretical specifications like a 0-100kph sprint in under two seconds, and a range of almost 700km on a single charge from solid-state batteries.

Then, we saw the sudden surprise of yet another sleek, two-door coupe from Toyota and its race-ready GT3 equivalent at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. Nothing was confirmed other than the fact that it had a throaty V8 burble as the two cars ran up the hillclimb.

And now, at the Monterey Car Week, Lexus has debuted its latest iteration of a two-door, sleek concept coupe called the Lexus Sport Concept.

Details are light, with Lexus saying it’s a “progressively styled, future-focused yet truly authentic sportscar” that signals the way forward for Lexus design.

From what we can see, this low-slung concept car features a sleek face, with two large ducts on both sides of the fenders that feature the elements of the spindle grille within, making it both functional for both aerodynamics and lighting.

Interestingly, there is a large front grille, the long hood has two vents, and there are large fender vents as well. This is obviously a concept car, but if you put two together, it hints at the production model having a rather large displacement engine that will need sufficient cooling underneath.

Apart from aerodynamic camera mirrors, yet another set of rear-mounted fender vents, a futuristic taillight array that combines vent-integrated lighting and a long light bar, and a pop-up rear spoiler, the Sport Concept has a very strong resemblance to the Toyota GT Concepts that we saw last month.

Could this mean anything? For now, it’s merely a concept car, a very, very sexy one indeed.
