The Honda Civic e:HEV’s dual-motor hybrid powertrain is one of the world’s best engines

The engine or powertrain is one of the most important part of any car. How will you move without it? And while its exact specifications might not matter to some, it really does for many others.
For those who want to make sure that they’re getting their money’s worth, they might want to check out the Honda Civic, specifically those with a hybrid powertrain, as it just won a Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems award.
While WardsAuto, which has been giving out the award since 1995, doesn’t rank winners, the inclusion of Honda’s two-motor hybrid system is still a feat. In fact, this is the third time that the Japanese automaker has received the said award, and also its second time in a row for the Civic.
According to the American publication, the Honda’s two-motor system provides an excellent balance between performance and fuel economy, something that they say is typically lacking in electrified powertrains. Variants of this powertrain also powers the CR-V and Accord, as well as the Prelude sports coupé.

Here in the Philippines, the Honda Civic gets the said powertrain, dubbed as e:HEV. It combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (141 PS, 182Nm) that runs the Atkinson Cycle, paired to dual electric motors that produce a combined 184 horsepower and 315Nm of torque.
Again, the Honda Civic’s powertrain was only one of 10 winners. Among the others, only one is not electrified (hybrid or full-electric). In case you’re wondering, the full list of winners is as follows, in alphabetical order:
- BMW M5 – 4.4-liter turbocharged V8 PHEV
- Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 – 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8
- Dodge Charger Daytona – Electric
- Ford F-150 – 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 hybrid
- Honda Civic Hybrid – 2.0-liter hybrid
- Hyundai Ioniq 9 – Electric
- Lexus LX 700h – 3.4-liter turbocharged V6 hybrid
- Lucid Gravity – Electric
- Mercedes-AMG E53 – 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six PHEV
