The Nissan Rogue PHEV is a Mitsubishi Outlander with a different grille

A lot may not know what a Nissan Rogue is. That’s essentially the North American version of the X-Trail which unfortunately is nowhere to be seen in the Japanese automaker’s current Philippine lineup.

It’s also possible that a lot don’t know that the Rogue and X-Trail are essentially the basis of the Mitsubishi Outlander, but with enough differences to set them apart. But Nissan has lessened the differentiation this time around with the new Rogue PHEV.

As you can see from the photos, the new Rogue PHEV is a straight-up rebadge of the Outlander, only wearing Nissan badging and a new front grille, receiving the V-Motion design language. The interior remains the same as the Outlander, and non-PHEV versions of the Rogue and X-Trail.

Unsurprisingly, the plug-in hybrid powertrain is lifted straight out of the Outlander PHEV. That’s a 2.4-liter 4B12 gasoline engine paired to an electric motor. This is good for a total combined output of 255 horsepower and 450Nm of torque.

Its 20kWh lithium-ion battery can be replenished through AC charging, it’s capable of driving up to 61km on all-electric power, or up to 676km on both fuel and electricity.

Now we wonder if Nissan has plans to badge the Rogue PHEV as an X-Trail. If so, we hope Nissan Philippines considers it for our market. But with the X-Trail still not around and with no signs of it coming anytime soon, best not to keep our hopes up.
