The Veloz Hybrid could be Toyota’s answer to the Mitsubishi Xpander Hybrid

Toyota is in the process of electrifying its entire lineup, especially with its developing market models that utilize the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA). Shortly after the global debut of the Ativ HEV a few months back, Toyota Indonesia surprised the region with the launch of the Veloz Hybrid.
Unlike the Ativ HEV or the Yaris Cross HEV, the Veloz Hybrid is simply a retrofit of the all-new powertrain into the existing body and chassis, meaning that whatever was shown off in the very brief launch livestream and in the press release is very similar to what we have right now with our current Veloz.

However, being a Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) vehicle, this means that it shares the same electrified powertrain found in the likes of the Ativ HEV and Yaris Cross HEV, meaning it uses the 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine (2NR-VEX), an electric motor, and a lithium-ion battery. The engine alone produces 91 horsepower and 121Nm, with a total system output of 111 horsepower, also mated to a CVT.
However, Toyota Indonesia states that this hybrid system has been tuned for the MPV, meaning it will most likely be able to handle the loads of up to seven people without any issue.

No other specifications have been mentioned since the car is currently available for pre-order in the region, but other publications present at the Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week 2025 have noted that the car will be offered in four variants, with the top-of-the-line variant sporting Toyota Safety Sense, and that this hybrid system will not make its way to its more affordable sibling, the Avanza.
This car will be produced in Indonesia, which is also where Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) sources the likes of the Avanza and Veloz siblings. This pretty much guarantees that if the automaker decides to bring it in, whatever specifications they will eventually show off will mirror what we might get in the future.
Also, this is a prime opportunity for TMP to swoop in and gain the top spot in the MPV segment as Mitsubishi Motors Philippines has not yet launched the Xpander HEV, which many are waiting for to this date.
