The Chinese took the Honda Fit and beat it with an ugly stick

Remember the Honda Jazz? Considered as one of Honda’s most beloved nameplates, the Fit/Jazz still lives on in other markets like Japan, Singapore, Europe, and China. While the fourth-generation model has been going strong since 2019, China has gotten a country-exclusive facelift.

Made in partnership with its long-time joint venture partner GAC Motor, the Fit gets a new facelift that makes it look significantly more like a VinFast, and much less like the previous generations the design was based on.

And there’s no denying it, this facelift makes the Fit look less like a Honda and more like your typical Chinese car, and not in a good way.

This comes with a new strip housing two daytime running lights/turn signals, and underneath, a separate pod for your main LED headlights. The grille has been blanked out to resemble an EV, with a small “window” for an intake, and a larger front bumper.

This is a bit weird, considering that the sole powertrain available here is a non-electrified, 1.5-liter, four-cylinder i-VTEC gas engine with 124 horsepower and 107Nm of torque, sending power to the front wheels via a CVT.

The rest of the car, however, remains untouched, down to the large greenhouse, taillights, and general shape of the car. The interior does get updated with a new 10.1-inch infotainment supporting wireless Apple CarPlay, Huawei HiCar, and Baidu Carlife.

Other than that, it looks to be very bare, with fabric seats and not much else in terms of amenities. It even has a physical handbrake lever!

This Fit retails at a price of 66,800 yuan, or roughly Php 570,000, making it a very affordable car. And here’s the kicker– it’s a limited edition, with only 3,000 units being made for the whole of China, and GAC-Honda also introduced a concept race car based on the facelift.

Would you take this odd facelift over the likes of the City Hatchback?
