Mitsubishi adds Yamaha performance dampers to the Triton in Japan

Mitsubishi’s current pickup truck, the Triton, has been well-received since its launch back in 2023, especially considering it’s an all-new truck built from the ground up. Three years on, the sixth-generation Triton finally gets another update, this time for the Japanese market, and it involves improving the truck’s ride comfort and handling.

The Triton now gets Yamaha performance dampers attached to the front and back of the frame, improving ride comfort and steering stability. Then, the front suspension and body mounts have been improved to reduce vibrations and improve the responsiveness of the front and rear shock absorbers.

According to Mitsubishi, these changes were adapted from the learnings from the AXCR rally car, showing the link between motorsports and production vehicles.

Smaller changes include having tailgate assist as standard across all model grades, and the climate control system now gets Panasonic Nanoe X air purification. Then, the center console and inner door handle garnish are now in a dark titanium finish. And for Japan, the GSR grade (equivalent of the Athlete in our market) ditches the sports bar for “more freedom of customization”.

Otherwise, the rest of the truck remains unchanged, down to the 2.4-liter, twin-turbo 4N16 turbodiesel and the truck’s interior and exterior.

These changes, especially the performance dampers, should be interesting as the Triton is considered to be one of the smoother-riding leaf-sprung pickup trucks on the market today. Hopefully, the Philippines is up for these changes next, as Japan’s Tritons are all built in Thailand, where our market gets them as well.
