The new BYD Atto 3 Evo brings rear- or all-wheel drive, more range, more power

The BYD Atto 3 has proven to be a hot seller in many markets around the globe. We’re not surprised why as it does actually offer quite the package. But BYD wants even more, and for 2026, they’ve given their all-electric compact crossover another host of updates, and it’s quite comprehensive.
Called the Atto 3 Evo in Europe where it has just been revealed, this crossover is no Mitsubishi, Lamborghini, or Porsche, but it gets more range and power, as well as new options for rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) which is a rather interesting development.

Still built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, the Atto 3 Evo does away with its front-wheel drive setup in favor of the aforementioned drivetrains.
The RWD version moves the single electric motor from the front to the rear axle, and produces 313 horsepower and 380Nm of torque, a healthy increase compared to the current version’s 204 horsepower and 310Nm, and brings down its 0-100kph acceleration time to just 5.5 seconds.
Meanwhile, the AWD gets both front and rear electric motors that produce a combined 449 horsepower and 560Nm of torque which are huge numbers for a vehicle in this category. That brings 0-100kph acceleration time even lower to just 3.9 seconds.
Both RWD and AWD versions are fitted with a larger 74.8kWh battery, with the former capable of driving up to 510km on a single charge, and the latter up to 470km. Charging from 10 to 80% can be done in 25 minutes through 220kW DC fast charging, while 11kW AC charging takes eight hours from 0 to 100% charge.
More than its mechanicals, the BYD Atto 3 Evo also receives some updates in the design and tech departments.

The exterior receives new and sleeker bumpers with a more aggressive design, front and rear, and rides on new 18-inch alloy wheels. Its C-pillar loses its fish scale-like design in favor of a cleaner and flat black plastic panel, along with a larger rear quarter window. It also gets a sportier tailgate spoiler.

The interior may look the same at first glance, but it has been updated with a new steering wheel, and the electronic gear selector is now mounted on the steering column, freeing up space on the center console. Additional new features are a head-up display (HUD) and heated rear seats, and the front seats have been redesigned from a single-piece sport seat design with fixed headrests to more traditional ones with adjustable headrests.

There’s also a new 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, while the 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system is retained but no longer rotates, now fixed in the horizontal position, and now features integrated Google services such as Google Maps, Google Play Store, and Google Assistant.

In addition, thanks to the new motor setup, the Atto 3 Evo now comes with a front trunk (frunk), giving more storage options. Safety has also been improved as it now comes with seven airbags, on top of standard advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS).

The new BYD Atto 3 Evo is now available for pre-order in Europe while availability is expected in the coming months. With such a long and comprehensive list of updates, we hope that it comes to the Philippines soon as well.
