Nissan’s new MPV for India is called the Gravite

When it comes to affordable MPVs, Nissan has the Livina answering the needs of our market. In fact, it’s only sold here and in Indonesia where it is sourced. What about other markets like India? That’s where the all-new Nissan Gravite comes in.

This new seven-seater subcompact MPV is the second Indian market-exclusive model from the Japanese automaker, joining the Magnite and upcoming Tekton crossovers. It’s another product of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, being based on the Renault Triber.

Despite that, Nissan has definitely done its work to make the Gravite distinct from its French-branded cousin, such as through its redesigned front fascia which gets a larger honeycomb grille, paired to more muscular bumpers that come with C-shaped design elements for an overall SUV-like appearance.

Nissan was a bit more conservative in redesigning the interior, retaining most of the Renault Triber’s design cues. The Japanese automaker highlights its practicality with several ways to arrange cargo and passengers through flexible seating configurations.

Features include an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, and leather seat upholstery. A special Launch Edition also features interior enhancements, including a premium JBL sound system.

Moving the Nissan Gravite is the Renault Triber’s 1.0-liter three-cylinder naturally-aspirated gasoline engine. This produces a modest 72 horsepower and 96Nm of torque, mated to either a five-speed manual transmission or five-speed automated manual transmission that’s branded as EZ-shift.

While the Nissan Gravite is a right-hand drive only model for now, chances of it coming to our shores are slim, in addition to the fact that we already have the more powerful and more modern Livina which is also doing fairly well.

Once it’s offered in left-hand drive though, do you think Nissan Philippines should consider bringing it in?
