Mitsubishi L300 achieves 900,000-unit production milestone in PH

Despite the local automotive manufacturing and production experiencing many highs and lows, there’s one brand that has been able to overcome many challenges. That’s Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC).
The Japanese automaker has just announced that it has produced 900,000 units of its long-running L300 commercial van, undoubtedly a staple of Philippine roads, and one that has been in production for decades.
Beginning production in the country in 1987 through 2015 at the MMPC manufacturing plant in Cainta, Rizal, then moved to the company’s Sta. Rosa, Laguna plant in 2015, the Mitsubishi L300 is produced as a completely knocked-down (CKD) model. Production has been continuous for nearly four decades, with only a brief pause from 2017 to 2019 when the model received a major mechanical upgrade and minor design changes.

Over the years, it has remained as a popular option for small and medium enterprises, logistics providers, and fleet operators, despite newer and more modern options from rival automakers. MMPC attributes this to the L300’s “robust build and practical cargo capacity have made it well-suited for delivery operations and various business applications, helping support daily operations and long-term growth.”
“The 900,000-unit production milestone of the Mitsubishi L300 reflects the dedication of our people and our commitment to continuous improvement in manufacturing,” said MMPC President and CEO Ritsu Imaeda. “Through disciplined operations and teamwork across our organization, we have been able to sustain production excellence while delivering vehicles that our customers have relied on for many years.”
Today, the Mitsubishi L300 remains in production, alongside the Mitsubishi Mirage subcompact hatchback and its Mirage G4 subcompact sedan sibling. Available in base Cab & Chassis form, it’s now powered by Mitsubishi’s 4N14 turbodiesel engine shared with the foreign market Mitsubishi ASX and Eclipse Cross, but remains largely the same in other aspects since it was first introduced to the market.
