Toyota wins its 100th hybrid WEC race with the TR010 Hybrid

The 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season kicked off with the recently concluded 6 Hours of Imola, and with it, was Toyota’s 100th WEC race utilizing hybrid power. And in that special number, the newly renamed Toyota Racing team managed to win its 50th victory since it joined the WEC.

The top spot was taken by the TR010 Hybrid #8 of Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Harley, and Ryō Hirakawa, eking out a sizeable 13.352-second gap over the #51 Ferrari 499P of the Ferrari AF Corse team. The TR010 Hybrid #7 of Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi, and Nyck de Vries finished in P3, granting Toyota Racing a double podium and the lead in the constructors’ standings.

This is good progress, especially since this is the TR010 Hybrid hypercar’s debut race. The GR010 Hybrid has been the most successful hybrid race car in the WEC Hypercar class, winning 20 races, 39 podiums, and winning four drivers’ and constructors’ championships.

The TR010 Hybrid isn’t a total overhaul compared to its predecessor, though, as it shares its general underpinnings, just with totally revamped bodywork and aerodynamics. This means that it still has a 3.5-liter, twin-turbo V6 that churns out 707 horsepower, 272 horsepower of hybrid power from its front-mounted electric motor, and a seven-speed sequential semi-automatic that sends power to all four wheels.

Toyota’s next endurance race will take place in the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium this coming May 9, and then the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans in France, which will happen from June 10 to 14, 2026.
