Mitsubishi is set to release a new Nissan-based pickup truck, but it’s not for us

Mitsubishi Motors may be doing extremely well in the Philippines, consistently maintaining its no. 2 ranking in terms of sales, and remaining as one of the brand’s top markets outside Japan, but it’s a different story in North America, particularly the United States and Canada where it lags behind most competitors.
Well, the Japanese automaker is determined to bounce back by making a splash with new models for North America that are set to be launched throughout the next couple of years, until 2030, as part of its Momentum 2030 plan.

Coming the soonest is the new Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback EV which was already revealed to be based on the latest Nissan Leaf, and confirmed to be introduced over there before the end of 2026. On top of that, Mitsubishi is keen to extract more from the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance with a new pickup truck.
Shown in a teaser image of six vehicles is a new pickup truck which Mitsubishi intends to use to re-enter the pickup truck segment in North America through its collaboration with Nissan, which it says should help expand its reach and relevance in the US market. No details have been announced about this yet, but we won’t be surprised to see this based on the current generation Nissan Frontier, or perhaps even the next-generation Nissan Navara.

Also confirmed is a new off-road oriented variant for the Outlander compact SUV, although details for this one have also not yet been announced, and Mitsubishi says that a name will be revealed at a later date. Also shown in the teaser image is a crossover that shares its silhouette with the Outlander but has a different lighting signature.

Gaining some attention as well are two boxy SUVs. The one in the foreground is currently unknown as of this writing, while the one in the background could potentially be the all-new Pajero which is set for a global unveiling this coming September 2. However, Mitsubishi did say that there is no decision yet whether the iconic and legendary nameplate would be introduced in North America.

While this piece of news may be irrelevant to our market, especially with how well Mitsubishi Motors Philippines is performing, it’s quite interesting to see how the brand, struggling in North America, plans to change things up and to keep itself afloat.
