2022 Hyundai Tucson revealed, looks stunning

It’s not your usual crossover.

Hyundai has just unveiled another revolutionary redesign with the all-new 2022 Hyundai Tucson. The company’s compact crossover is now in its fourth generation after it first met the world in 2004.

Looking nothing like the current third generation model, the all-new Tucson embraces Hyundai’s new parametrix dynamic exterior design that also expresses the company’s Sensuous Sportiness design language seen on the Elantra, Santa Fe, and upcoming Custo minivan.

“We are thrilled to introduce the all-new Tucson, the latest model in Hyundai’s SUV transformation,” said Thomas Schemera, Executive Vice President, Head of Product Division at Hyundai Motor Group. “This exciting vehicle sets a new benchmark for innovation in its segment, delivering an impressive blend of design, technology, packaging and performance.”

Again, the all-new Hyundai Tucson is nothing like any other previous generation. It has what Hyundai calls half-mirror type daytime running lamps that are seamless to the parametric grille and can only be seen when illuminated. The kinetic design theme also carries over to the rear where we can find a trendy LED light bar and half-triangle shaped taillights. As usual with previous and current Hyundai designs, it’s a very sharp and angular looking exterior.

Hyundai dubs the interior of the 2022 Tucson as “INTERSPACE.” It’s definitely very upmarket and classy. The dashboard is seamlessly integrated to the door panels. The center stack is described by the company as like a waterfall. It is dominated by a 10.25-inch full touchscreen display with no buttons and dials including for the climate controls. The instrument cluster is also fully digital just like most new cars today. Ambient mood lighting is also available and adjustable with 64 different colors and 10 different brightness levels.

Under the hood are three different powertrain options. The first is a Smartstream 2.5-liter direct-injected four-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 187 hp and 247 Nm of torque, paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The other option is a 1.6-liter hybrid powertrain that produces 178 hp and 264 Nm of torque. Combined output is at 227 hp and 350 Nm of torque.

For safety, the 2022 Tucson can come equipped with Hyundai’s SmartSense suite of driver assist safety features. This includes Highway Driving Assist, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Blind-Spot Monitor, Blind-Spot Collision Warning, Surround View Monitor, Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist, Remote Parking Assist, High Beam Assist, and Driver Attention Warning.

The all-new Tucson goes on sale in the company’s home market of South Korea in September as a 2021 model. It will then go on sale in the United States and other global markets including the Philippines as a 2022 model starting from the first half of 2021.
