Volkswagen PH Officially Introduces Multivan Kombi

Just a couple of weeks after announcing its introduction and actual arrival of its first batch of units, Volkswagen Philippines has officially launched the Multivan Kombi, its latest model and first van offering locally.

Imported straight from the brand’s home market of Germany, today marks the comeback of Volkswagen’s iconic Kombi nameplate in the local market. The Volkswagen Multivan Kombi is available in one variant, the Highline. 

Volkswagen says that the Multivan Kombi is the crème de la crème of its multivans. It distinguishes itself from other Kombi configurations such as the Transporter, designed for cargo and shuttle services; Caravelle, used as an economical people carrier; and the California, designed more as a family camper.

The lone Highline variant gets LED headlights, daytime running lights and taillights, 17-inch alloy wheels, and dual power sliding doors, and a power tailgate as standard. It can also be had with a two-tone exterior color scheme.

Inside, standard features are Nappa leather seats, dual swivel captain seats on the second row, a multi-function table, and tri-zone climate control. In terms of tech it gets Volkswagen’s Active Info Display, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay, Driving Profile Select with Dynamic Chassis Control, and Park Assist.

Under the hood, the Multivan Kombi is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel 330 TDI engine. It produces 148 horsepower and 340 Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG).

In terms of safety, the Volkswagen Multivan Kombi gets Six Airbags, Crosswind Assist, ESP, Hill Start Assist, Anti-Slip Regulation, and Parking Distance Control with Reverse Camera. 

Available exterior colors on the Multivan Kombi are Reflex Silver, Black Pearlescent, or a combination (kombination, hihi) of Reflex Silver and Starlight Blue Metallic. Volkswagen Philippines is also offering it in 12 other color options through indent order: Candy White, Fontana Red, Ravenna Blue, Starlight Blue, Mojave Beige, Bay Leaf Green, Copper Bronze, Iridium Grey, Relfex Silver/Iridium Grey, Mojave Beige/Black Pearl, Candy White/Bay Leaf Green, Candy White/Copper Bronze, and Reflex Silver/Fontana Red.

All who purchase a Multivan Kombi will be able to take advantage of a 2-year warranty, 2-year spare parts warranty, and 2-year no-through corrosion. The juicy part is that all these can be used regardless of your van’s odometer reading. Owners will also only need to visit the dealership once-a-year for their preventive maintenance service (PMS). 

In terms of pricing, Volkswagen Philippines was able to lower the prices a bit compared to what they first announced a couple of weeks ago, albeit introductory. The standard monocolor Multivan Kombi Highline is priced at Php 3,595,000 while the two-tone version is priced at Php 3,640,000.

Will this be able to take some buyers away from a popular Japanese brand also known for some of their premium van offerings?
