Honda unveils 2nd generation BR-V in Indonesia

The Honda BR-V has been one of the go-to models for those looking for a family MPV but with a more desirable SUV appearance. It has been around since 2016 and has reached the end of the typical life cycle of a Honda model, five years. Now it’s due for replacement.

Revealed today in Indonesia, the Honda BR-V now gets a second generation. Based on the N7X Concept, previewed in May this year, the 2022 BR-V gets a complete redesign with an even more SUV-like appearance.

On the outside, the 2022 Honda BR-V gets an evolutionary redesign from the outgoing BR-V. The front end keeps similar styling cues but in a larger package. At the back, the taillights are similar to what you’d see on the City sedan.

Inside, the 2022 BR-V is a large departure from the model it replaces. The new interior is similar to what is seen in the current generation Amaze subcompact sedan. Features include push button start and remote engine start, walk-away automatic door locks, an analog instrument cluster with 4.2” TFT display, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Under the hood, the all-new Honda BR-V retains the L15 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine but just like in the City, has been updated with DOHC. It produces best-in-class figures of 120 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque, paired to an Earth Dreams continuously variable transmission (CVT) or 6-speed manual transmission.

In terms of safety, the 2022 Honda BR-V is now available with Honda SENSING, a suite of advanced driver-assist features. This means the BR-V can be had with forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and lane keep assist. It also gets Honda’s LaneWatch blind spot camera.

If we were to base on the outgoing Honda BR-V, it could take around a year before this new generation arrives in the country. Of course, this can always change depending on Honda Cars Philippines’ timeline. For now, we’ll have to wait.
