Geely Emgrand spied in PH, launching soon?

It looks like we’ll be seeing another new model launch from Geely Philippines and it’s not going to be a crossover like the rest of its lineup as what is obviously a Geely Emgrand sedan has been spied in the country.

Two photos, showing a gray Geely Emgrand with covered badging driving along what looks like the North Luzon Expressway, were posted on the official Facebook page of fellow motoring media site, VISOR, a few hours ago. A quick look at the Geely Philippines website also confirms the upcoming launch of a new sedan.

The Geely Emgrand is a B-segment sedan, now in its fourth generation, which was first revealed earlier this year, in August to be exact. It rides on Geely’s B-segment Modular Architecture (BMA) platform, the same one used by the very popular Coolray crossover. If launched here, it should compete directly with popular subcompact sedan models such as the Toyota Vios, Honda City, and Nissan Almera, just to name a few.

In terms of looks, the Emgrand wears a traditional sedan look but appears to have a lot of European inspiration, taking cues from the larger Preface sedan and even the Xingyue L SUV. Features include projector headlights with LED daytime running lights, a rear diffuser, and full-width LED taillights embedded with the Geely nameplate.

The interior looks quite premium for a B-segment sedan, from its design to available equipment which include a 12.3-inch fully-digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, a CN95 intelligent purifying air conditioning system. Higher variants will also offer a 540° surround view camera system, ultra-high definition driving recorder, and a hands-free trunk opener.

Under the hood, the Chinese market Geely Emgrand is powered by a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated inline-4 cylinder DVVT engine that produces 113 horsepower and 147 Nm of torque. This is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with 8 simulated gear ratios.

There is no word yet as to what standard equipment and specifications we’ll be seeing locally but given how competitive Geely’s other models are, it would be surprising if the Emgrand wouldn’t be. Same goes for pricing though we can definitely expect this to be priced very competitively.

Given the timing, we could expect to see a launch happening early next year. If ever, we won’t be surprised to see a lot of these on Philippine roads just like the extremely popular Coolray crossover.
