Mitsubishi Montero Sport GT 4×2 in PH to get upgraded features for 2022?
Mitsubishi Motors Philippines (MMPC) has recently been busy introducing blacked-out versions of its current lineup, starting with the Xpander Black Series, then the Strada Athlete Black Series.
This time, though not yet officially out, it looks like the Montero Sport will also be getting its own Black Series version. Not only that, MMPC also seems to have given it some additional equipment that should make it more competitive in its segment.
Posted on the Montero Sport 3.5 2020 Philippines Facebook group, photos show what appears to be a new variant of the Montero Sport. Based on the GT 4×2, what could be the Montero Sport Black Series gets a blacked-out front grille, 18-inch alloy wheels, roof, rear spoiler, and front and rear bumper garnish. There are no immediately noticeable changes inside.
What’s interesting though is that this is not all purely aesthetics. Looking at the front Mitsubishi badge and the interior (from a separate post by a Mitsubishi sales agent), it appears that the GT 4×2 A/T variant will now get adaptive cruise control and forward collision mitigation as standard. These were previously only available with the top-spec GT 4×4 A/T. This move is probably to make the variant more competitive against its counterparts from other brands such as the Nissan Terra 2.5!VL 4×2, Isuzu mu-X 3.0 LS-E 4×2, and Toyota Fortuner 2.4 Q 4×2.
We’re not yet sure as to how much the 2022 Mitsubishi Montero Sport GT 4×2 Black Series will be priced at but a comment on the post that included the photos mentioned that it will be priced at Php 1,980,000. For comparison with previous Montero Sports, the 2020 version of the GT 4×2 was priced at Php 1.998-million. In 2021, MMPC added a 360-degree around-view monitor as standard but reduced the price to Php 1.928-million.
For now, we’ll just have to wait for the full details once Mitsubishi Motors Philippines announces the availability of this new variant. We might not have to wait soon though as the photos show that the units are already at local Mitsubishi dealerships.
