BYD Cars PH teases the new heavily updated Seal 5 DM-i

BYD Cars Philippines may have slowed down by a very slight bit when it comes to introducing new models, but they’re bound to go all out once again as the Chinese automaker has just teased its next pair of new models that will be coming to our market.
Posted on their social media pages is a teaser image showing the BYD Atto 2, and the new Seal 05 DM-i which will take the name Seal 5 DM-i just like what we currently have. The former was already previewed in both EV and PHEV DM-i forms, but this is the first time the brand is giving out hints of the latter.
No information has been confirmed by BYD Cars Philippines about the new Seal 5 DM-i, but it’s easy to tell that this is based on the Chinese market Seal 05 DM-i. This isn’t a new generation of the plug-in hybrid compact sedan, but is actually a heavy facelift.
The front fascia gets a more rounded appearance with softer lines, doing away with the aggressive look of the outgoing version. The taillights still wraparound, but get a pattern similar to what’s on the Seal EV, and the interior has been given a complete redesign.

Available information tells us that the new Seal 5 DM-i will come in Dynamic and Essential variants, powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that produces 100 horsepower and 126Nm of torque on its own, and providing charge to an electric motor that produces 163 horsepower and 210Nm.
Both variants could get a 7.42kWh LFP battery that should allow it to drive up to 55km on pure electricity, or more than 1,000km on a single full tank of gas and full charge. Charging can be done through Type 2 AC charging, receiving up to 3.3kW.

BYD Cars Philippines has not announced a launch date for the heavily updated Seal 5 DM-i yet, but given the model’s popularity and the usual timing of their teasers, we can expect it to come very soon.
