BYD’s 2026 PH sales at over 28K units as of August, grows by 99%

There is no doubting the strength of the BYD brand in the Philippines. In 2025, the Chinese automaker jumped from zero to third place in terms of local vehicle sales, and it looks like they’re set to replicate and boost that performance further for this year.

In a rare move, BYD Cars Philippines and its official distributor, ACMobility, have announced their official sales figures for 2026 so far. From January to August 2026, sales are at 28,399 units, equating to a 99% year-on-year increase, and already beating the brand’s 2025 total sales figure of 26,122 units. For the month of August alone, a total of 4,682 BYD vehicles were sold.

This is certainly shaking up the market as based on the July 2026 sales report of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI), of which BYD Cars Philippines isn’t a member of, their sales as of July 2026 ranks in third overall, sitting behind Mitsubishi Motors Philippines, which has 42,592 vehicles sold (as of July 2026). CAMPI has not released its August 2026 sales report yet as of this writing.

Unsurprisingly, these high sales numbers are led by BYD’s plug-in hybrid DM-i lineup with 22,555 DM-i vehicles sold from January to August 2026, equating to a 95% year-on-year increase from 11,542 units in the same period last year. 

The new national photobomber and the most common vehicle to see in EV charging stations, the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i, expectedly leads this segment and is also the best-selling BYD model overall with 7,759 units sold, accounting for 27% of total company sales.

BYD’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) lineup has also seen large amounts of growth with sales reaching 5,844 units from January to August 2026, an increase of 115% compared to the same period in 2025. The BYD eMAX 7 leads the brand’s BEV sales with 1,975 units sold, representing 34% of the brand’s total BEV sales for the period. 

And we all know that despite multiple other automakers claiming the top spot in electrified vehicle sales, BYD Cars Philippines now officially holds the title as the country’s bestselling brand in both BEV and PHEV categories, so far.

“The market’s response to our best-selling models, like the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i, the eMAX 9 DM-i and the eMAX 7 BEV, and our achievement of crossing our full-year 2025 sales is proof that electric vehicles have entered the mainstream in the Philippines,” said BYD Cars Philippines Managing Director Bob Palanca.

All eyes are definitely on BYD, and for sure other automakers have already felt the effects of the brand’s strong rise in sales and domination of electrified vehicle segments.
