Is Ford PH bringing 3.0 V6 turbodiesel powertrain for Ranger and Everest?

A few months ago, Ford revealed that it would be discontinuing its 2.0-liter EcoBlue bi-turbo diesel engine in favor of its more powerful and larger 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel, in the Australian market for its Ranger pickup truck and Everest midsize SUV twins. Earlier this year, the same was done for the Thai market where the two models are manufactured and built.

It looks like the Philippines is next in line to receive the same set of updates, especially considering that local units of both models are also sourced from Thailand, and it could well be happening in the coming months.

Back in January, Ford Philippines applied for its required Certificate of Conformity (COC) with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). If you don’t know what that is, it’s the oval-shaped sticker you can usually find on the lower left side of new vehicle windshields. This is a strong indication of the new powertrain’s arrival in our market.

We can expect 4×4 variants that were formerly powered by the 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine to receive the new 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel. If ever, it will produce 250 horsepower and 600Nm of torque, increases of 40 horsepower and 100Nm. As with before, power will still be sent to the wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission

Minor cosmetic changes could also come to both the Ranger and Everest, such as a flatter Ford emblem with white replacing chrome touches, along with updated alloy wheel designs. Chrome accents could also be replaced with black.

When will these updates come? We think that Ford Philippines could use the upcoming 10th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) as its stage for the introduction of the updated Ranger and Everest. It’s good to note though that the American automaker has yet to confirm its participation as of this writing. Once we find out, we’ll update this article accordingly, so watch this space.
