The 2nd-gen Ford Territory is NOT a Chinese car rebadge

2 min read

The all-new second generation of the very popular and segment-leading Ford Territory was just recently launched in the Philippines. It was met with both positive and negative feedback relating to its features, engine, looks, and of course its origin.

Still sourced from China, many people believe that this new Ford Territory is a rebadged version of a Chinese model like the previous generation.

That is no longer a bad thing though given how Chinese cars have improved tremendously over the past decade with many even said to be better than Japanese and Korean models, but of course, there are still those people who think otherwise.

It is no secret that the previous generation Ford Territory was a rebadged version of the JMC-Yusheng S330. The resulting Ford Territory is a product of the partnership between Ford Motor Company and Jiangling Motors Corporation for the Chinese market. However, this new one is now purely a Ford product.

Essentially a Ford Equator Sport, the all-new Territory only gets a different name for overseas markets like ours, but underneath all its sheet metal, it is completely developed from the ground up by the blue oval. That also explains the huge step up when it comes to quality and materials used, as well as its design which now follows the latest Ford products as well.

It is true though that JMC continues to manufacture the Ford Territory, at least for our market and China. At the same time, the Territory is also manufactured in Ford’s plant in Vietnam for their market.

So for those saying that the all-new Ford Territory is just another Chinese car rebadge, you’re wrong. It is indeed a rebadge of another Ford product but not a Chinese car.
