Mazda PH seems to have quietly discontinued the CX-9

It’s a sad day for fans of the Mazda CX-9 as Mazda Philippines seems to have quietly discontinued local sales of the large, three-row SUV. Its listings appear to have been taken down from the company’s price lists and website, leaving the CX lineup with the CX-30, CX-5, CX-8, CX-60, and the CX-90.

The Mazda CX-9 was introduced in our market all the way back in 2007 when the Japanese brand was still part of Ford, meaning this nameplate has had a long 19-year lifespan in our market. Prior to its removal this year, prices of the CX-9 started at Php 2,790,000 for the 2.5L Turbo Black Edition, topping out at Php 2,990,000 for the 2.5L AWD Turbo Exclusive.

If this is confirmed, it doesn’t come as a surprise, as back in 2023, news came out that the CX-9 would be discontinued for the North American market, followed by the Australian market later that year. That same year, a statement from Mazda Philippines said that the model would continue to be offered in the Philippine market, and it would be sold alongside the CX-90, as it was sourced from Japan (specifically the Ujina plant).

The CX-9 had a package that was unlike other full-size three-row SUVs at the time. It was offered with a 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G Turbo engine that pushed out 231 horsepower and 420Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, and the option of either front-wheel-drive or all-wheel drive.

It had a luxurious interior, with seven seats upholstered in Nappa leather, alongside a 12-speaker Bose audio system, a 9.2-inch infotainment screen, a digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and the complete suite of i-Activsense advanced driver assistance systems.

Three years later, with its removal, it seems like a logical move for Mazda Philippines to consolidate its lineup, as the CX-90 (its spiritual successor) has proven to be quite popular. It offers the same people-hauling capabilities and luxuries as its predecessor and a whole lot more, like a 3.3-liter inline-six mild-hybrid gasoline engine, a rear-biased all-wheel drive system, up-to-date tech, and more.
