All-new Toyota Wigo arrives in PH, price starts at Php 609K

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is moving non-stop this year. Less than a month after launching its new addition to its local MPV lineup, the Zenix, the Japanese automaker has introduced the 2nd generation of its entry-level model, the Wigo.

Making its first appearance for the Indonesian market earlier this year, the all-new Toyota Wigo now rides on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform which also underpins the Toyota Avanza, Raize, Veloz, and upcoming new Vios. It also gets a sportier exterior and an improved interior, as well as some changes to its powertrain.

With this new generation we get a new entry-level 1.0 J M/T variant. Carried-over from the previous generation are the 1.0 E, and G variants. The TRD-S variant has been removed from the lineup and could be replaced by a new GR Sport (GR-S) variant in the future if we look at other Toyota models.

Anyway, in terms of design, the all-new Toyota Wigo is a complete departure from the outgoing version. It gets its own unique and new front fascia which is more aggressive and features a larger grille, and vertical daytime running lights. The rest of the vehicle is identical to the Perodua Axia which it is based on. Its interior on the other hand is unsurprisingly reminiscent of that in the Raize, Avanza, and Veloz, featuring similar design elements.

Standard features on the all-new Toyota Wigo include 14-inch alloy wheels on all variants, and a 1DIN audio system for the base J variant. E and G variants get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while exclusive to the latter is smart keyless entry and push button start.

All variants of the all-new Toyota Wigo are powered by a 1.0-liter KR-VE Inline 3-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 67 horsepower and 89 Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed manual transmission on the J variant, or a new continuously variable transmission (CVT) on the E and G variants. If its displacement and figures sound familiar, that’s because it’s the same engine from the previous generation Wigo.

As for safety features, standard also on all variants are dual front airbags, anti-lock braking system, vehicle stability control, and hill start assist control.

The all-new Toyota Wigo remains as the most affordable model in the Toyota Motor Philippines lineup with a starting price of Php 609,000 for the 1.0 J M/T, followed by Php 684,000 for the 1.0 E CVT, and tops-out at Php 729,000 for the 1.0 G CVT.

The all-new Toyota Wigo is currently on display at the Trinoma Activity Center. It will be available in all authorized Toyota dealerships nationwide starting July 17, 2023 (Monday).
